Position Summary
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the strategic and operational leader of Valex Federal Credit Union, a federally insured, member-owned financial institution with over $40 million in assets and three branch locations. The CEO is responsible for executing the strategic direction established by the Board of Directors, ensuring financial soundness, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and exceptional member service. This role demands a visionary leader with strong financial acumen, a commitment to cooperative principles, and the ability to inspire a high-performing team in a small, community-focused credit union environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement the credit union’s strategic plan, mission, and long-term objectives.
- Financial Oversight: Ensure the credit union maintains financial stability, profitability, and liquidity, and prepare accurate and timely financial reports for the Board.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily operations including lending, member services, compliance, and risk management, while promoting efficiency and innovation.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and evaluate staff performance to foster a strong team culture aligned with the credit union’s values and member-first approach.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with NCUA regulations and all applicable state and federal laws. Serve as liaison with regulators and auditors.
- Member & Community Relations: Promote a member-centric culture and represent Valex within the Alexandria community and credit union industry.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance Organizational Management, Human Resources, or related field required; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years executive-level experience in a credit union or community financial institution.
- Proven leadership in strategic planning, asset/liability management, lending, and operations.
- Strong understanding of NCUA regulations and credit union governance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with the Board, staff, and community stakeholders.
